AHPs and Social Workers
At Oxford Health we want to nurture our workforce providing opportunities to grow, develop, and be the Allied Health Professional or Social Worker you want to be. We are committed to the NHS People Promise; valuing a sense of team, striving to ensure that every voice is heard, and supporting our people. We want to be at the forefront of developing, delivering, and transforming services to meet the population need. Research and evidence-based practice underpins our delivery of prevention, crisis intervention, and rehabilitation services.
Our Allied Health Professional Services
In Oxford Health we have nine of the fourteen Allied Health professional groups practising across physical health, mental health and learning disability services.

Our Art Therapy services provide a creative and therapeutic space for individuals to explore and express their emotions, promoting mental well-being and personal growth. Our art therapists work across a variety of settings, including hospitals, community services, and specialised mental health units, supporting patients of all ages. Using art as a medium for communication, particularly for those who find verbal expression challenging, we help individuals process trauma, reduce anxiety, and build self-esteem.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, our art therapists collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to deliver holistic, patient-centred care. In addition to clinical practice, they contribute to training and education, raising awareness about the benefits of art therapy in mental health and emotional well-being.
Our Social Work Services
Social workers bring a distinctive and essential contribution to mental health services. We work alongside people, families, carers and communities to promote rights, dignity, safety, recovery and inclusion. Our practice is grounded in social justice, legal literacy, safeguarding, anti-discriminatory practice and a strong understanding of how health inequality and disadvantage affect mental health and wellbeing.
Across every role and career stage, social work in mental health is about seeing the whole person or child in context. We champion rights, relationships, recovery, safety and social justice. We work in partnership with people, families, carers, communities and colleagues to reduce inequality, improve wellbeing and make sure that care is not only clinically effective, but humane, inclusive and grounded in people’s real lives.

Adult mental health social workers support adults of all ages who are experiencing mental health difficulties, resulting in social crisis, risk, safeguarding concerns or complex life circumstances. We work in community, inpatient, urgent care and specialist services, such as perinatal, forensic, eating disorders and Early Intervention, helping people to access the right support, understand their rights and build lives that are meaningful, connected and as independent as possible.
- We complete holistic assessments that look beyond symptoms to understand strengths, relationships, housing, finances, trauma, culture, identity, caring responsibilities, and community networks.
- We promote rights-based and legally literate practice, including confident use of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act, safeguarding duties and human rights principles.
- We contribute to risk formulation, care planning and discharge planning, ensuring that social context, family networks and lived experience shape decisions.
- We work closely with multidisciplinary teams while keeping the social work voice visible, bringing challenge, advocacy and a focus on equality where needed.
- We support people and families through crisis, transition and recovery, helping them navigate services and maintain choice, dignity and connection.
