At Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, we are committed to advancing mental and brain health research, aiming to discover new treatments and apply existing knowledge to improve clinical care. Our research, led by a diverse team of clinicians, nurses, AHPs, and support staff, includes clinical trials and innovative studies across a range of mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and dementia. With up to 100 studies running at any time, our research spans four distinct research infrastructures and extends to primary, community, and dentistry healthcare settings.

Oxford Health Research & Development

The NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre is a partnership between Oxford Health, the University of Oxford, and 11 NHS Trusts and universities across England. It is supported by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and focuses on 11 research themes related to brain health.

The Oxford Health Clinical Research Facility (OH CRF) was established in 2011. It is a dedicated centre for improving mental and cognitive health treatments through clinical research. The OH CRF is based at the Warneford Hospital in Oxford and is the only NIHR-supported clinical research facility dedicated to mental health.

The University of Oxford collaborates closely with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, linking clinical services with world-class discovery science.

The Trust works alongside the University's Department of Psychiatry, a leader in psychiatric research, and the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, both based at the Warneford site.

The role of Clinical Research Facility (CRF) administrator is pivotal in the successful organisation and administration for the CRF at the Warneford hospital site in line with the aims of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. This post involves supporting patients, participants and researchers using the CRF services, providing reception cover, administration duties and research support.

A Research Nurse in the Clinical Research Unit is key to delivering impactful clinical trials in mental health and neuroscience. Working closely with the study team, our research nurses support research clinics, assist with trial-specific procedures, and contribute to recruitment, education, and monitoring of trial participants. Their responsibilities include collecting and managing samples, ensuring accurate data documentation, and applying trial protocols in compliance with local, national, and international research regulations.

The role of assistant psychologists is to undertake supervised assessments of patients attending our clinics and to provide additional support to our medical staff. This may also include direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, family members or carers. You may also assist with neuropsychological tests, rating scales as appropriate and psychometric screening.

The Research Governance Manager plays a vital role in overseeing research governance and granting NHS permissions for projects within the Trust. They lead the setup and initiation of all research, ensuring compliance with national and local regulations, including the Research Governance Framework, Human Tissue Act, Data Protection Act, ICH-GCP guidelines, and EU Clinical Trials Directive.

This role within Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust’s (OHFT) Research and Development Department focuses on driving participant recruitment for high-quality research studies and embedding research into the Trust. The manager is also responsible for developing and implementing strategies to recruit participants and manages recruitment data from the four sites of the NIHR Oxford Cognitive Health Clinical Research Facility.
