Team Bury all the way – Conor’s story

My journey with Bury started as a student social worker on placement from a local university in 2014.

Initially, I wanted to complete my social worker degree and then go on to become a teacher, but during my placement with Bury, I gained a real passion for social work, one that I initially didn’t think I had. With the fabulous support from my leaders and managers at the time, I became inspired and soon recognised that social work was my vocation.

I have continued to progress within Bury, starting as a social care officer whilst awaiting my qualification. Then, as a newly qualified social worker, I completed my ASYE (Assessed and Supported Year in Employment) and moved onto a qualified social worker post within the Integrated Discharge Team. I gained many of my skills and knowledge from a wonderful team of people and progressed to Advanced Practitioner supporting and guiding members of the Integrated Discharge Team. Finally, I recently progressed to become Reviewing Team Manager where I support and manage a team of nine, made up of two social workers and seven reviewing officers.

It goes without saying that I would not have been able to achieve the things I have without the help and support of the wonderful people who have helped me on this journey from peers and colleagues to managers and directors.

I have no hesitation in recommending Bury as the place to come and work.

I am very proud to be able to say that I am part of “Team Bury”. There is a real community where we all have that shared focus and shared vision to provide the very best support for the people of Bury.
