Amy

I have worked in museums since 2002, having started my career with Stockport Museums at Hat Works where I first delivered sessions to schools and families. Since then I’ve had a variety of museum roles including visitor services and learning and have also worked in the third sector as a volunteer coordinator. I returned to Stockport Council in September 2021 to take up my current role and am really enjoying contributing to the cultural development of my home town.

I work as part of the museums team. We work together to run Stockport’s 6 local authority museums: Hat Works, Staircase House, Stockport Museum, Bramall Hall, Stockport Air Raid Shelters and Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery. There are 7 Museums Officers, all with slightly varied remits, and a team of Museum Assistants who work in various roles.

My role is to manage the learning activities at all our sites along with activities and interactive elements for children and families.

This means that I manage the Museum Assistants who deliver our programme of learning sessions for schools and also work to develop those sessions to make sure that they are what teachers want and need.

My role is very varied. A typical day might see me rewriting web copy, organising a staff rota and moving objects from our handling collection around the building. I also attend lots of networking and development meetings. Sharing the history and heritage of Stockport is really important and gives great job satisfaction. Stockport council is a great place to work with a range of benefits and development opportunities.
