My reason for joining Haven was due to Haven’s reputation for developing their team and the chance to work for a nationally known company in the hospitality sector.

What is it like to work as part of your team? 

 It is really good to work with people of different specialisms and with different personalities.

What does a typical day look like in your role? 

Being the Capex Accountant, I am involved with everything related to the Capital Expenditure for Parks and Head Office 🏢, from Maintenance to Capital Spend. I am currently working on finalising the Capex Maintenance budget for 2024.

What training and development have you received? 

I have received multiple insights and training on Capex and the Finance function from everyone in the team, from the trainee accountants all the way up to the directors.

One of the things I look for is the culture…. If the culture is good, then I enjoy my work far more. The culture at Haven is fantastic. Another important thing for me is feeling valued and being in a position where my opinion counts 📣. I’m lucky to be in a position where my opinion is considered and, in a role, where I can help make a real difference to the way the business operates.

Plus, it’s always fun to work in a Holiday business.

What is it like to work as part of your team?

For me, I really enjoy the team I am part of. There can be a common view on accountants that they are very serious, and spreadsheet-focused…. But we are far from your typical accountants. We like to have fun and have a laugh while at work…. Which makes it a much better environment to be a part of. I’ve been in jobs in the past where the teamwork ethic just isn’t there but working with this team, I genuinely look forward to coming to work.

I think being a team who can have a laugh means we work better together and all muck in where needed.

What does a typical day look like in your role ?

So rather than a typical day, I have a typical week.

Monday and Tuesday are spent working on reporting📝 and the previous week both financials and non-financials and having meetings about recent performances. Working weekly allows to change quickly to trends… which is much needed given the seasonality of the business.

The rest of the week is more ad hoc analysis or project work… helping guide the business to make decisions.

One of the pieces of work I am proudest of is the Pitch Analysis. It basically looks at every single pitch and helps decide what purpose it's best for… Owners or Holidays. I’m proudest of this piece of work as it plays an important role across the whole strategy of the business and the direction it's going in. It's constantly evolving as we get more granular in the detail we go to.

I am currently studying for a CIMA Accounting qualification…. Which the company have been brilliant about. They’ve given me all the support I need to help me get through the course, from on-the-job training to study leave for my exams 📚

Who is your favourite member of the Seaside squad?

Rory… now they’ve changed he’s the one constant and reminds me of when I used to go to Haven as a kid.
